Description

In the year 2399 the USS Yarra, an Intrepid-class starship, is dispatched to the Gamma Quadrant to investigate scan results indicating an M class planet showing similar signs of technological development to Earth at the time of First Contact with the Vulcans.

When the USS Yarra arrives in the Toral system, the ship does indeed find an M class planet with a level of technology similar to Earth at the time of First Contact, but with small unarmed vessels capable of travelling at low warp speeds. Initial scans indicate that some of the technologies in use are Klingon in origin. A long range scan of the system detects no obvious sign of a Klingon presence in the area but that does not explain the Klingon technology detected in these warp capable vessels.

Mission Summary

The USS Yarra is sent into the Gamma Quadrant to investigate scan results of a probe that has detected an M-class planet showing similar signs of technological development to those on Earth at the time of First Contact with the Vulcans.

Once the USS Yarra establishes contact with the Toralans, it becomes clear that the Toralans have gained limited warp capabilities from generations of reverse engineering alien technologies that have, for reasons unknown, wound up in their system, and crash landed on their planet, but their version of a warp core is far from stable and cannot exceed Warp 1.2 for prolonged periods of time.

The probe had detected the Toralan’s trying out a new warp core on the vessel that had intercepted the USS Yarra, which was marginally better than the original warp core but could not exceed Warp 1.5 for any length of time.

Captain Kadek sends over an engineering team and her First Officer to examine the warp core in an effort to work out whether or not the Warp Core is viable or not, and they find that with some minor adjustments it can be made stable enough to operate at Warp 1.5 for prolonged periods of time.
